As a mountain biker on the front range, you have probably wondered what it would be like to have a mountain bike only trail in Jeffco. Well, you no longer need to wonder because we will soon have two legit mountain bike only trails in Jefferson County Open Space!

Beginning June 18, 2018, Longhorn Trail (below the intersection of Shorthorn) at White Ranch will be designated as a downhill mountain bike only trail. In addition, on August 1st the southernmost section of Dakota Ridge will be bike only with suggested clockwise direction of travel. The management of both of these trails will be part of a one year pilot program. Thank you for those of you that made a commitment to give back to the mountain bike community through trail work, attending meetings, and being good stewards on the trail as these efforts show our commitment to our public lands. The biggest note of gratitude goes to Jefferson County Open Space for their willingness to explore this idea and responsibly implement new management strategies.

Our job is not done though as we continue to need mountain bikers to be stewards for our sport.

Action Item #1: Give a shout out to the fine folks at Jefferson County Open Space for making a proactive change for the mountain bike user group. Let them know this matters. https://www.facebook.com/jeffcoopenspace/

Action Item #2: If you encounter a hiker, equestrian, or uphill biker on Longhorn: Be Cool. Politely inform them of the new changes to the park and suggest an alternate trail. This applies for Dakota Ridge as well.

Action Item #3: Sign up for a local MTB community event including a Colorowdies group ride, Golden Giddyup or COMBA trail work day, or join us at a Jefferson County Open Space Advisory Committee trail talk.

Action Item #4: Ride Bikes, Be Awesome, Stay Rowdy
